Family at home

September 16, 2020

Birthday club sessions are fun and we enjoy catching up with our families. With everything gone on we got a bit behind on scheduling this wonderful little girls one year session, she is actually 14 months. But that’s alright we were still happy to see her and how much she has grown over the past months. We have never done a session at home with this family despite the fact that we have been doing photos with them for over 4 years. It was a great time to get this done while at the same time having a session that is more personal to them at home. Being August of course it was warm but since we have all be working together for so long we knew exactly what we wanted so we could work quickly. Of course a nice family photo was how we got started. First of all this helps the kids warm up to photos without mom and dad just putting them down and walking away. With mom and dad in the photos it puts them at ease about us being at their house. After we got some amazing family images it was time to focus on the girls. We sat them down for a photo together and the lovingly looked at each other. Oh my, that image had to be captured! They just looked so sweet and who knows how long that will last. Since we were there for a one year photo shoot we finished up with single images of the birthday girl. She was walking so we had to be careful where we placed her and at the same time she was very smart about where she wanted to stand. Of course we worked with that and didn’t force the issue on any pose because we know that would just make a for sad little girl. The funny part was as much as she walks mom wasn’t sure she had ever walked barefoot in grass so when we put her down she just stood still, very unsure of what was touching her feet. Helpful to keep her in one spot but the smiles were harder to get because she was concerned about the tickles on her toes. Overall we got great images yet again and we will see you in the fall for another birthday club session.

Jenna and Joe

May 22, 2020

Jenna and I started an email thread about setting up an engagement session and little did we know how many times we would be emailing back and forth. We traded dates a couple times, then had to move because we were not able to operate and Jenna couldn’t find anyone to do her hair and makeup. Then we were on the fence depending on if Joe could get a haircut. Finally we were able to meet and get the session done! I’m glad everything worked out in the end because they really got a wonderful evening to do the photos. We met at the park and I could tell Jenna was excited to get the photos done. I went over some thoughts on where we would be doing photos, types of photos and asked if they had any questions. The only thing they mentioned is they just wanted some nice photos of the two of them together, no need to get crazy with jumping around or silly stuff. That sounded good to me, really Jenna and Joe made the session super easy because they interacted well with each other. Of course all couples need a bit of direction on how to stand or pose but once it was set they handled the rest. They were so happy with the results, but really that was all them making my job easy! A relaxed couple that enjoys spending time together helps make the photos perfect, it captures all the emotions. I knew I had to get the photos ready quickly so they could select images for the save the date cards. I’m sure everyone that gets a card will love the results too since these two are just a great pair. I look forward to photographing the wedding later this year.

Trish and Dan

May 22, 2020

Trish and Dan visited the office looking for a wedding photographer. We had a great conversation during the consult meeting. They were moving along with wedding plans but still had some things to get done before the June wedding. Trish seemed excited but overwhelmed by the whole planning process. She would not be alone in those feelings, most brides feel that way. Dan said he was doing alright with the planning stage of things but knows on the wedding day it will pass very quickly. He even said that he expects to only get 13 bites of food during dinner. Let’s hope that is not true! They mentioned that they were just beginning the photographer part in planning and hoped to visit a few other photographers. Of course couples want to compare the styles, pricing and personality of a couple options. I let them know I was always available for questions as they reached a decision. My excitement grew when I realized they wanted to work with me for the wedding! I knew it was a good match, now we needed to get the engagement photos scheduled. We had no idea the city would shut down prior to their session nor did we know when it would open back up. However we were able to find a day to work together outside, a beautiful day for us to keep our social distance from one another. We had a great time talking about what they have been up to recently, wedding details and the plan if those details needed to change. I was so happy to see that Trish and Dan had a plan but were not stressing out about if it needed to be put into place. “We are getting married, that is the important part.” Of course they want all the guest to be there but either way they will be getting married. The afternoon was filled with so many great moments of them laughing and interacting with each other. This gets me very excited for the wedding day because those emotions will only get better when they are surrounded by loved ones. Only a month to go!

Session Step by Step

May 12, 2020

Here at Ravetta Photography we try to make everything as easygoing as possible. That doesn’t go to say we can’t still have fun during each of our sessions!

It is important to us to build an ongoing relationship with all of our clients. We try to gradually get to know you a little more each time we interact. From the first initial point of contact, whether it is via email or phone call, to your last appointment to pick up your order, we want you to feel both welcomed and valued each time you talk with us.

The ultimate goal is that you continue to choose our studio to help you capture the important milestones in your life! That’s exactly what we’re here for – you.

When you first contact us, we will ask questions to learn more about you, what you’re looking for, and who all you want to be photographed during your session. This is usually when we can determine what type of session and/or package will fit your needs. At this point, we will check our calendar to schedule a date and time that is perfect for both of us! Nothing is due until your time of session – unless you want to purchase a gift certificate for someone.

On the day of your session arrive just a few minutes beforehand, like you would for any other appointment. If we agreed to meet on location, you will find us waiting there for you! After we introduce ourselves and catch up a bit, we will take payment, have you sign your contract, and move along with your session! Every second counts. We want to capture as many memories as possible during our time with you – don’t forget to have some fun!

If you choose to have a studio session, we are located off of Hampton, not far from Arsenal (3131 Hampton Ave). There is street parking available along Hartford Street.

Once you walk in, you’ll find our waiting room. Go ahead and make yourself comfortable, but keep in mind we do have a small dressing room within the actual studio for you to keep important belongings, and whatever props and/or change of clothes you may have brought with you. Don’t worry, it won’t be but seconds before one of our photographers greet you!

Next we will prepare the studio with any necessary changes based on outfit choices or what we decide to start with. In the meantime we will take you into the office to verify and update any contact information, take payment, and sign your contract.

After your session, it usually takes about 2 weeks for us to get your proofs ready for you to see. Once that process is completed, we will contact you to set up a viewing appointment at the studio. At this appointment, we will go over print sizes, prices, and options for you to place an order.

In another couple weeks, we will contact you again to let you know your order is ready to be picked up! We encourage you to place an order at your initial viewing appointment, with an added bonus of 30% off your print order. If you choose to wait to make a decision, your order must be placed within two weeks (with no discount).

As you can see, the entire process is pretty straightforward and there is plenty of time to get to know you and your family!

We understand everyone has a lot of other responsibilities in life and we are flexible when scheduling each appointment. Our office/studio is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and most Saturdays we may be out photographing weddings or other events. Be sure to schedule in advance to find the best availability for you. Tuesdays and Thursday are popular days due to our evening business hours where we are open until 7PM. Be sure to check out the rest of our website for more information about our services and studio.

We look forward to hearing from you soon! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.

The Ravetta Family

The History of Us

April 24, 2020

Since we have a bit of time on our hands we thought it would be a great idea to tell you how we got started. Ravetta Photography has been in business over 45 years! The photography industry was very different back then but we have changed and adapted to the way we run our business over the years.
Lou has always had an interest in photography, even as a young child, so when his grandmother passed away and left him $200 he wanted to buy a camera. He thought it would be a wonderful way to remember her as well as further his photo interest. Lou started by taking photos of his girlfriend, Karen. They went all over St. Louis taking different style images and having fun. Then a relative of Lou wanted him to photograph a small wedding, he said no because he wasn’t sure he could handle a wedding. He just liked taking photos and didn’t want the pressure of a wedding. After some convincing from the family member, Lou actually changed his mind and agreed to photograph the wedding. It turned out that he did such a wonderful job his family started telling other people about him. So Lou ended up doing other weddings and portraits, then those people told other people how much they liked the photos. The ball was rolling…45 years later here we are! Those referrals at the beginning of our business lead to more referrals which is what keeps us going. We wouldn’t be successful without our clients telling others about us.
Remember that girlfriend, Karen, well Lou married her and they have been running Ravetta Photography together since the very beginning. At first they met with people at their home, until they had a daughter…spoiler… that daughter was Rachel! Apparently even as a baby Rachel had a photography interest because she wouldn’t let mom and dad work without being involved. This distraction caused the company to move to its own location. At first it was just an office area to meet with people because all the sessions were on location. The success of the business allowed Lou and Karen to invest in a better camera, attend seminars to learn from the pros, move to a location that had space for a studio and add studio lighting to what they offered.
Years and years later that is exactly what we are doing each day. We have updated our equipment to the best digital cameras, we are constantly learning – however we are the pros now so we often help others too. Social media wasn’t even a thought back when the business opened but if we didn’t use it now then clients wouldn’t be able to find us. Our ability to adapt to the changing photography industry only enhances the fact that we are able to make each client experience with us special to them.
Please keep sharing our name so in 45 years from now Ravetta Photography can still be going strong taking images of the next generations. Think about it for a minute, wouldn’t it be so great to help a business be around for almost 100 years! Each person we photograph that mentions our name becomes a part of our history.

Darci and Ian

March 10, 2020

Darci and Ian planned a February wedding with no idea what the weather would have in store. We discussed options for photo locations. Luckily they planned to get ready at a nearby hotel, this always gives a few options to do photos if we are unable to go outside. The wedding was at Sunset Hills Banquet center, with the golf course being right outside the door we had more options to do photos outside. We could walk out do a few photos and then go back inside to get warm. We had multiple options in place with the couple. The great part was we had a wonderful day so we through all those back up plans out the window!
We arrived at the hotel to capture the wedding party getting ready. The girls were moving along and staying on time – not always a common thing when we show up wedding morning. The boys were also prepared for some photos in the hotel room…perhaps too prepared! They were ready to have fun from the moment we walked in the door and this continued the entire day. Their energy really helped everyone forget it was a bit chilly outside. However when you think about the weather we could have had, we would say it was a beautiful day.
The first look happened in the hotel so Darci and Ian could spend a few moments together before we headed to the ceremony location. With ample photo spots right outside we did all the photos before the ceremony. The sweet and candid moments were plentiful with this couple. We captured many photos of them interacting with each other. And it was such a wide range of photos too, from kisses on the cheek to Ian picking Darci up and carrying her across the field. It will be very hard for them to narrow down the favorite photos. It didn’t help that the wedding party was having such a great time too.
The family even arrived early for photos. This gave Darci and Ian time to really enjoy time with them instead of being rushed from one location to the next. A short ceremony lead right into the reception, exactly what they had planned – get to the party quickly. But not before we took a moment for some sunset photos.
The day just went so smoothly from start to finish! We were happy that we captured all the moments of the day. Thanks for letting us be a part of your memories.

Michelle and Steven

March 10, 2020

Michelle and Steven met us at a bridal show. They were searching for vendors to help out with their day. After a brief meeting during the show they decided it was best to come into the office to talk in more detail. When they arrived they had all their parents with them. I knew this was going to be so much fun because of how close the families were. I found out that Steven’s mom is actually Michelle’s god mother. The moms have been friends for years!
Prior to the wedding day if the couple has any special request photos I ask that they give them to me so that I can review everything. Michelle had a few things in mind that we were able to capture throughout the day. The most important thing she had in mind was photos in the snow! A January wedding can go many different directions – no snow, too much snow, or just the perfect amount of snow. The day started off very cold with a chance for sleet all day. Not exactly the best option but Michelle was still in great spirits as she got ready for the day. Steven even greeted us with a thumbs up as he waited for his turn to take some photos. The ceremony was beautiful but the most beautiful moment was when we were all packing up to leave and we looked out the window….GIANT SNOWFLAKES! Michelle literally jumped for joy.
This wonderful snow had us heading to the park because our original plan was inside due to sleet. Snow is much better for outdoor photos. Everyone may have been a bit cold but we worked as quick as possible getting some amazing photos in the falling snow. So many photographers have to add a filter to photos to make it look like the photos we were getting in real life. It was such a magical moment for the couple as they kissed under a clear umbrella surrounded by snow. We are honored we captured these memories for you, congratulations!
